We have reached about 1/3 of the needed funds for our “Buy a Bed for Christmas” project, with over $3000 in pledges and gifts received. These funds will allow us to buy beds & bedding for an entire orphanage in Rwanda where the children are currently sleeping on the bare floor with not even blankets or pillows to add comfort. RIVER'S PROMISE TO HELP GENOCIDE ORPHAN

We were recently contacted by a high-ranking government official in Rwanda who is asking for our help so that a young man who lost most of his family in the Rwandan Genocide can complete his university education. The young student has been personally helped by the government official but the financial burden is great and River’s Promise has been asked to help. The student is currently studying “management” at the local university and we are being asked to assist with his tuition and perhaps some food. The total cost is just over $2000 per year and we are looking to have the project funded by the end of this year. We want everyone to be able to participate in helping orphans in Africa. So as we unveil our “Buy A Bed for Christmas” project, we thought it’d be helpful to give an item-by-item breakdown of how you can help an orphan in Africa. This will give you some options for giving, even if you are unable to give a large amount.

BUY A BED FOR CHRISTMAS

During Jimmy Lakey’s recent trip to Rwanda, he discovered an orphanage that had no beds, blankets, pillows, etc. This means that the children sleep nightly on the concrete floors with none of the regular bedtime ammenities. This sad situation has stirred us to action and we have determined to raise all the funds needed to buy beds, mattresses, pillows, sheets, blankets, and mosquito nets for the entire orphanage. These children sleep on bare concrete!

The cost is $200 per child and we need to raise $10,000 by Christmas to meet this incredible need by Christmas for all 50 children!

RIVER'S PROMISE SET TO UNVEIL CHRISTMAS PROJECT

River’s Promise, an effort supported by World Changers & Jimmy Lakey is set to announce a massive fundraising initiative that will correspond with the 2008 Christmas Season. Jimmy Lakey recently stated, “This is probably our most aggressive project to date since we’re limiting it to only 8 weeks, and doing so in the middle of a massive economic downturn.” Lakey added, ”. . . but I am confident in the generosity of our donors to help make a huge difference in the lives of orphans in Africa.”

Exact details of this new project have not been made public but rumblings say that while it is a big project, but there will be a donation point that will be accessible to donors of all financial levels. More to come on this new initiative for the holiday.
